Along with providing accommodation and community for those that enjoy winter sports, the Australian Alpine Club also aims to promote competitive skiing, tours, and exploration on skis. We strive to create a welcoming snow accommodation community where members can share their passion for skiing while also respecting and preserving the natural beauty of the mountains.
The Australian Alpine Club was founded by Charles Anton in 1950. It was known as the Ski Tourers’ Association until 1962. Throughout the 1950s to 1980s, Australia saw a rise in the popularity of skiing, and a number of lodges opened up across the country. The AAC now comprises five ski lodges: Perisher, Falls Creek, Mount Hotham (Anton Huette), Dinner Plain, and Niseko, Japan.
Our members enjoy a number of benefits across the AAC ski lodges. This includes specific member rates when booking accommodation at their chosen ski club, as well as affiliate rates across all AAC lodges. Members can also bring guests at rates that are considerably cheaper than public prices.
Pricing for lifetime membership differs depending on the lodge you wish to be a member at. There’s also a smaller yearly stipend for continued facility maintenance and improvement. The purchase of an AAC membership not only gives you reduced snow accommodation rates at our lodges, but it also comes with a selection of exclusive benefits and offers within the ski community.

While generally considered a warm country, there are several areas where enough snow falls to justify skiing in Australia. These include the Snowy Mountains in New South Wales, Mount Hotham and Falls Creek in Victoria, and Mount Buller and Mount Baw Baw in Victoria. The Australian Alpine Club has taken advantage of these snowy conditions by building lodges in many of these areas for club members to stay and enjoy the snow.
To become a member of the Australian Alpine Club, you must first be nominated by an existing member. After that, you will need to fill out an application form and pay the membership fee. For more detailed information on the process, send us a message.
No, you do not have to be an experienced skier or snowboarder to join the Australian Alpine Club.
The ski season generally runs from June to October, with peak snow conditions usually occurring during July and August. However, the snow quality can vary from year to year.
While we don’t offer direct ski equipment rental at our lodges, our members do have access to exclusive discounts [link] with different ski rental companies. We recommend checking with the specific resort you plan on visiting for more information on ski equipment rental.
Our lodges welcome guests of all ages, however you will need to be at least 18 years of age to become a member.
While skiing and allied snow sports are the main attraction of those staying at our lodges, there are often other activities available such as snowshoeing and general snow play. Additionally, our lodges all have cosy lounge areas for relaxing with a book or warming up after a long day on the slopes.
